Our cadet and junior developing elite athletes have travelled to compete at the 2019 World Taekwondo Oceania Presidents Cup held at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre last 27 June 2019 bringing home 2, Golds and 1 Bronze medals. Their results are:

Sofia Querubin (cadet under 41 kg) won all three matches to win Gold

- 1st preliminary fight winning score of 22-6 vs VIC opponent

- 2nd semi finals fight winning score of 13-1 vs WA opponent

- 3rd finals fight winning massively with a gap score of 21-0 vs current national team member from QLD stopping match in second round!

 

Aaditya Kadam (Junior under 48 kg) won Gold vs QLD opponent with massive gap score of 45-12.

 

Ysabella Querubin (Junior under 46 kg) fought Japan and settled for Bronze in a close match with score of 6-8.

Team Taya travelled to Canberra and competed at the 2019 ACT Cool Climate Classic Championships held at the Australian Institute of Sport on 20-21 July 2019 where they brought home a total of 23 medals - 14 Golds, 5 Silvers and 4 Bronzes all in sparring events. It was a good preparation for the upcoming NSW State Championships on 4 August 2019 which will be the state selection event for the Australian National Championships in September.

Notable performances were from our triple Gold Medallist Jade Macgowan who won all her blue, red and black belt divisions and our double Gold Medallists Diego Querubin, Evangeline De Guzman, Joshua Tollens and Lachlan Macgowan who fought two divisions a part of their development and transition program into the next rank. Also fantastic win for Shreyas Gurelli who won vs his senior opponent with a massive gap score of 45-14 to win Gold. Congratulations and well done Team Taya! Team Taya travelled to Seoul, South Korea and participated at the 2019 at the Kimunyong Cup International Open held at Jang Chung Arena on 12-17 July 2019.

It was a great result on a Day 1 with our Cadet Athlete Sofia Querubin winning her under 41 kg division after 4 massive fights against athletes from powerhouse Taekwondo countries such as China, Thailand and Chinese Taipei, results as follows:

Round of 16 vs China with gap score 31-5

Quarterfinals vs Thailand with gap score of 27-6

Semifinals vs Chinese Taipei with score of 33-16

Finals vs Chinese Taipei with score of 30-24

Well done Sofia for making history with your success at this international event!!!

Day 1 also ended with our Coach-Instructor Ms Abby Sangalang awarded the Best Female Coach in Cadets Division at the 2019 Kimunyong Cup International Open in Seoul, South Korea!!!

Congratulations Ms Abby for the well deserved award!!! A wonderful acknowledgement of all your hard work, passion and commitment.

Day 2 saw our Junior Athlete Ysabella Querubin competed at her under 46 kg division. Bella fought hard and was toe-to-toe vs Russian opponent but unable to hold the last 30 seconds of the 3rd round losing in quarterfinals with score of 22-29.

Day 3 had our Junior Athlete Aaditya Kadam seeing action in his under 48 kg division and was leading well until the last few seconds of the quarterfinals match losing to Korea with score of 26-33.

A massive learning experience for our athletes which should assist with their skills development and court management tactics. This Korean trip forms part of their training program for future growth and exposure to high standard international tournaments. Thank you to the coaches for your dedication and to their parents for the support.

 

Team Taya achieved excellent results at the two day Sydney Taekwondo Festival tournament last 25-26 May 2019 with our 21 athletes winning 38 medals - 22 Golds, 8 Silvers and 8 Bronzes.

We are so proud of our athletes with several notable performances and point gap wins from triple gold medallist Chelsea Gomez who as a red belt won her division in point gap in the finals match and also stepped up in two black belt divisions winning all 3 matches two in point gap and 1 high scoring results and double gold medallist Jade Macgowan who as a blue belt faced the challenge of fighting also in red belt and won both divisions in point gap.  

Also great performances from the other double gold medallists Sofia Querubin, Evangeline De Guzman, Ethan De Guzman, Lachlan Macgowan who all stepped up for another division and won in both divisions and our gold medallists Aaditya Kadam, Ysabella Querubin, Heaven Alvarez, Shreyas Gurelli, Alec Macgowan, Ayaan Shetty, Sanemi Sharma who won mostly in point gap and our new member Joshua Tollens winning Gold in his second competition experience. Congratulations also to our duo sister team of Saanvi and Saachi Sharma for the gold medal performance in pair poomsae.

Participation in this event is part of Taya Taekwondo's grass roots training and development program to provide opportunities for our young athletes to learn, have more court time and experience, build confidence, apply strategies and improve technical skills. Thank you to our coaches Ms Natalia, Sir Ed, Ms Abby for your dedication, hard work and commitment to bring the best out of the athletes, to our black belts Aaditya, Ysabella, Sofia for looking after our colour belts and to our parents for your support, cheers and encouragement.
