Team TAYA Taekwondo competed at the recent Australian Open and National Championships held on 7-9 September 2012 at the Carrara Indoor Stadium at the Gold Coast in Queensland representing NSW.

 Congratulations to the following players for their achievements:

  • Leonardo (Mer) Mercado - Gold Medal - Poomsae, Yellow Belt 41-50 Years Old Division
  • Isaiah (Aya) Mercado - Gold Medal - Poomsae, Yellow Belt 19-30 Years Old Division
  • Kyan Gonzales - Gold Medal - Poomsae, Yellow Belt 8-9 Years Division and Silver Medal - Sparring, Yellow Belt 8-9 Years Division, 34-38 kgs
  • Abby Sangalang - Silver Medal - Sparring, Black Belt 14-17 Years Division Under 46 kgs and Bronze Medal - Sparring, Black Belt Open Division Under 46 kgs

This is a fantastic result for our first Nationals! Well done Team TAYA!

Abby has represented NSW for the 8th year in a row at the Nationals and has qualified for the final selection event for the Australian National Team on 3 February 2013 for the World Championships in Mexico in May 2013. This was her first time competing in both the Juniors and Open Divisions. After successfully qualifiying for the final World Championships Australian National Team selection, Abby is now included in the Australian Olympic Athlete Program Squad. Well done Abby, we are very proud of you!
